Patricia Areán is a professor in the University of Washington’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and also is a licensed clinical psychologist. Dr. Areán is a leading behavioral scientist, with an expertise cross-cultural mental health, geriatric psychology, assessment and treatment of depression and anxiety, and in the use of technology to conduct surveys, user experience research and clinical trials to scale. She is currently co-director of the NIMH funded ALACRITY Center, the CREATIV Lab and the MHATS Digital Laboratory at the University of Washington. Dr. Areán has published on the recognition and treatment of depression and anxiety, methods for recruiting and retaining large and representative numbers of adults into longitudinal research, and acceptability of using digital data for the purpose of screening and treating mental illnesses.
